Minchinhampton Mini Rugby was started in 1980 for 5 to 16 year olds. After two years a Senior section was planned and a first meeting was held in the Crown on Friday 13th August 1982. Twenty-two people attended, J.V. Smith was elected President and Iain Cuthbert was elected as Chairman, a post he remained in until 1989.

The National Trust granted us use of a pitch at Windmill Road and posts had to be erected before the game and removed immediately afterwards. The Old Lodge was our first home but with only one shower for use after the game. Wycliffe Motors kindly provided the posts, Listers donated a set of touch flags and The Crown gave us our first ball. Rob Howe became our very first Captain and our first game was away to Cirencester which we lost 8-3. Our first home game on Nov 29th saw us thrash Widden Old Boys 36-0.

Over the course of the next ten years the club had many homes, including its own pub The Ram. We then moved to The Black Horse, The Village, Eygpt Mill and The Britannia during the following years. From 1992 until 2007 our home was Minchinhampton Sports Bar. When the sports bar closed we became homeless, the same position in which we find ourselves to this current day. Today we use Marling School for our home games, drink at Stroud Rugby Club after the game and The Crown in Minchinhampton provide us with food.

The club is currently playing in Gloucestershire League Division 3. Minchinhampton have had mixed fortunes over the last few years, being promoted twice and then being relegated twice. The 2008/09 season sees the club growing in numbers and we will be running two teams. The Rams will be competing in the Merit table.

The mini section was unfortunately wound up in the late eighties only for it to be resurrected again in the mid nineties. The new Mini and Junior section has grown in strength over the last ten years and now attracts over 150 children. Please see the Junior section of this web site for more information.
